Barebones base units and full PC systems including CRT or LCD
/ TFT monitors of sizes 15" , 17" and above are frequently
auctioned. Even after postage or courier costs you can still find
bargains at auction. If the seller lived nearby, allowing local
collection, you can save even more. New, Refurbished, Ex-corporate
and home users selling off their redundant items; almost every
system configuration and component you can imagine can be found
at auction or to 'Buy It Now' for a fixed amount - often referred
to in forum jargon as a BIN price.

None of the systems listed above are suited to running Microsoft's
Windows Vista operating system . Modern 64 Bit / Hyperthreading
/ Dual Core / Core Duo / Quad Core / Dual Processor technology
is required.
Dell, IBM, Compaq, HP and Fujitsu Siemens are all branded machines
common in the corporate world. Some of these, especially those
in SFF, or Small Form Factor, cases may contain non-standard components.
Check that any machine comes complete with approriately sized
Motherboard, CDROM, HDD and any necessary external power supply,
otherwise you could well end up spending a fair sum sourcing the
required spare parts.
If the hardware comes with an appropriately licensed copy of
the Microsoft Windows operating system, XP Home / Pro or 2000
Professional, complete with authentic CD and COA affixed to the
machine then a price adjustment may be in order. Windows 98 is
effectively worthless in terms of value, a decade after its release,
as is Windows Me, a home environment operating system from 2000.
Carriage on base units appears to be commonly in the £12 - £18
region or £20 to £25 including a TFT monitor. CRT monitors, being
heavy and having little value, make any transport costs uneconomical.
